Top 5 viewpoints of Nepal

Nepal is full of reasons to be on a travelers bucket list. It’s friendly people, culture, heritage sites, landscapes and world-class trekking trails are to name a few. The biggest attraction is however the amazing views of the Himalayan ranges as Nepal is home to eight of 14 highest peaks in the world which includes Everest, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Amadablam and Machapuchhre among others. There are numerous view points to get a glimpse of these Himalayan giants.

# 1 Kala Patthar, Everest Region

Kala Patthar (5,164m), near Everest Basecamp, is the most popular viewpoint in Nepal. It offers the closest view of Mount Everest and the surrounding himalayas.
But getting to Kala Patthar is not easier, it takes about 12 days round trip on the trail to Everest Base Camp from Lukla airport. You can even take a helicopter ride from Lukla or even directly from Kathmandu.

# 2 Khopra Danda Annapurna Region

Khopra Danda, (3,660m) is other popular view point in Nepal. It offers the spectacular view of Dhaulagiri (8,167m), the world’s 7th highest mountain. It is also one of the rare viewpoints that houses a lodge. But it needs a luck to get a room there which can give you a view of the himalayas in the morning from the comfort of your sleeping bag.
The place also offers an amazingly scenic breakfast. It takes 6 days of trekking to reach Khopra Danda.

# 3 Gokyo Ri, Everest Region

A rocky peak, 5,357m above sea level, Gokyo Ri is the slightly lesser known, and slightly farther away viewpoint of Everest compared to Kala Patthar. From here the views of the Everest and other mountain range are amazing, and some even consider it the best point for mountain views as more of the surrounding mountains can be observed, including 3 additional 8,000m peaks: Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu.
Trekking to Gokyo Ri takes about 14 days round trip from Lukla, via Namche Bazaar and Gokyo Lakes.

# 4 Tengboche, Everest Region

Tengboche is famous among trekkers in the Everest region. It lies on the trail to Everest Base Camp and houses a famous Buddhist monastery at 3,867m above sea level. The place offers amazing views of Ama Dablam, which is considered the world’s most beautiful mountain. Lodge facilities are available at Tenboche and requires a trek of 5 days from Lukla via Namche Bazaar.

# 5 Poon Hill, Annapurna Region

Poon Hill (3,210 m) located above the village of Ghorepani in the Annapurna region of Nepal, is the most visited viewpoint in Nepal. The hill top offers spectacular views of sunrise and stunning Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges. Compared to other places on the list, Poon Hill is relatively easily accessible and requires 3 – 4 days round trip from Pokhara.
